Interpretative Essays

This section of the website deals with the wider historical issues surrounding the events of September 1957.  Each essay will contain links within the essay to other relevant historical issues and also links to particular pages of the source itself.  These essays are meant to provide the reader with an understanding of the issues that influenced the events at Central High School; these issues, in addition, explain the reaction to the events from external perspectives.
