trade of Soviet missiles in Cuba for US missiles in Turkey.
- An American U-2 spy plane accidentally strays into Russian airspace
and is nearly intercepted by Soviet fighter planes. While Another U-2 is shot
down over Cuba, killing the pilot.
- The CIA reports that five of the MRBM sites are now fully operational.
- Dobrynin and Robert Kennedy meet and discuss what is at stake in removing
missiles from Cuba.
- Kennedy writes Khrushchev a letter stating that he will make a public
statement ensuring that the US will not invade Cuba if Khrushchev removes the
missiles from Cuba.
- If they did not start to dismantle the missiles in Cuba straight
away, the EX-COMM were strengthening their plans to mount an invasion.
