  • 1794 - Treaty of London (a.k.a Jay's Treaty) - British to evacuate northern forts and get fur trading rights over the border in return


  • 1796 - Treaty of Alliance between France and Spain



  • 1801 - (February) Treaty of Luneville and the Convention of Aranjuez (March) complete the retrocession of Louisiana back to France

  • 1801 - September - Treaty of Montfontaine between France and Spain; also separate friendship treaty between France and US

  • 1802 - October 15 - Carlos IV finally signs the official papers to hand over Louisiana to France

  • 1802 - October 16 - Spains withdraws US right to navigate the Mississippi and deposit in New Orleans

  • 1803 - March - Jefferson sends Robert R. Livingston and then Jason Monroe to negotiate in Paris
