The Treaty of Paris, 1763, ended the Seven Years' War and terms were such that 'France surrendered to Great Britain the remainder of Louisiana to the east of the Mississippiand all of Canada. In the same treaty, England also acquired Florida from Spain.' 1 As such, 'Spain gained complete control over the mouth of the Mississippi.' 2
