The Sixth Floor Museum

The museum places the assassination in its historical context. Special exhibits and audio-visual presentations examine the social climate of the early 1960s, President Kennedy's life and career, the political reasons behind his trip to Texas and the enduring effects and controversy of his death on American culture. One of the films is narrated and hosted by veteran television journalist Walter Cronkite who was first to announce on national TV that the President had been shot.

[ Fascination with Assassination ]

The Sixth Floor Museum

Opened in February 1989, The Sixth Floor Museum attracts an average of 420,000 visitors annually. Among the many points of interest for museum visitors is the opportunity to gaze through the sixth floor windows overlooking Dealey Plaza to observe the route of the Presidential motorcade as it passed in front of this building on November 22, 1963. In October 1993, the National Park Service formally designated the building and Dealey Plaza as being part of the Dealey Plaza Historic Landmark District.
