This course will provide a foundation in the principles and methods of linguistic argumentation particularly with respect to phonological analysis and those aspects of phonetics relevant to phonology. Topics include an introduction to articulatory and acoustic phonetics; phonetic transcription; the distinctive feature framework; the structure of the segment; phonological alternations; phonological rules; segmental processes, syllables; stress; interaction of phonology and morphology. |
