Dinnertime is a daily ritual for many people but dinnertime experiences can differ greatly. More than the act of eating, dinners have a key role in shaping the way we socialise, and reflect the culture, attitudes, values, lifestyles and relationships of the individuals taking part. This program looks at six dinnertime experiences in and around Sydney in detail. The expectations of a dinner date are compared with a truck driver’s experience of dinner. Intimate and celebratory meals that thrive on the interaction of guests are documented alongside the dinnertime experience of homeless people, where any social experience is an addition to the real need to seek food. And two very different communities formed around dinnertime are profiled, from the religiously bound Sikh temple community to café staff working the dinnertime shift. Once you click on the main image for each segment a player should be launched such as Quicktime or Realplayer. Please go to our help page if you are having problems. If you find that you are unable to upgrade quicktime or are having difficulties connecting to the stream please contact the coordinator of the site. |
